Cincinnati Masters: Murray wins Wawrinka, faces Norrie in second round

Former world No 1 Andy Murray defeated a familiar foe Stan Wawrinka in the first round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati to set up a match with world-ranked no 11 Cameron Norrie in the round of 32.
Murray, in the round of 64 against Swiss Wawrinka, claimed a victory after winning two in the three-set contest.
The 35-year-old, who has lost in five Australian Open finals, four of which are to Serbian Novak Djokovic, admitted that the contest with the Swiss which he won 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-4 was physically draining.
“The court is pretty lively when the weather is like this. Physically I feel tired,” Murray said after the match.
The British tennis star, during the match, won the first set but unfortunately, lost the second set after he developed a muscle cramp.

However, highly spirited to overcome Wawrinka’s threats, Murray shook off the muscular setback to claim the victory.
He said, “I had some issues with cramp during the match, the same as Washington, so that is something I need to get on top of.
“I tried to take the ball on a little more and finish points at the net. I wasn’t that successful when I came up, but the intention was there.
“I was a little more offensive on the second-serve return. Last game I was just fighting, trying to find a way through,” Murray continued.
The British tennis professional won three Grand Slam titles and will hope to rejuvenate winning a trophy since he last won in 2016.
Meanwhile, the clash between Murray and Norrie, in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters, will be the second time both tennis stars will be meeting in their career after the former defeated the latter 7-6(6) 6-7(4) 6-1 in Beijing 2019.
