Monsignor Bakeni Ordained as Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri

Despite the heightened tension over the safety of Christians in northern Nigeria, the Catholic Church has conducted the episcopal ordination of Monsignor John Bogna Bakeni as the Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese.

Maiduguri, the Borno State capital remained the epicentre of Boko Haram, ISWAP terrorist groups. The Catholic Church used the occasion to call for prayer from NIGERIANS for Monsignor Bakeni.

In a statement, the Church stated “We pray for him that despite his own unworthiness; he may faithfully fulfil the office of Apostle, which Jesus Christ, has entrusted to him.

“We pray that he may become more like our High Priest and Good Shepherd, the Teacher and Servant of all and so be a genuine sign of Christ’s loving presence among us.

“We pray for the Bishops, Priests, religious men and women, lay faithful and eminent personalities that will be honouring the event from far and near, that God will grant them safe journey. Amen.”
