AfDB earmarks $5.6m for ninth World Water Forum

Africa Development Bank (AfDB) Group has earmarked $5.6 million to support the ninth World Water Forum (WWF), which holds from today, March 21 to Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Diamniadio, Senegal in partnership with the World Water Council and the Senegalese government.
The Trumpet learnt that this year’s event, the first in Sub-Saharan Africa is with the theme: Water Security for Peace and Development.
AfDB’s Vice President for Agriculture, Human and Social Development, Mrs. Beth Dunford, said the event will be an opportunity for participants to gain deeper insight into how the bank provides technical and financial support for regional member countries to ensure water security for sustainable development in their territories through its water and sanitation development.

“As one of the leading financial institutions on the continent committed to the development of Africa’s water and sanitation sectors, it is natural for the AfDB to support the Senegalese government in co-hosting the forum.
“Failure is not an option when it comes to mitigating the imbalance between water needs and water availability to boost economic development and stability,” she said.
AfDB is member of WWF’s international steering committee and plays a leading role in its pilot group responsible for sessions exporting the modalities and tools needed to implement policies and solutions to water security.
