Man City narrowly edge Atletico Madrid as Liverpool thrashes Benfica 3-1

Manchester City defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at the Etihad.

Both teams which played a barren first half struggled through the early minutes of the second half to break the deadlock but could not.

However, in the 70 minutes of play, Kelvin De Bruyne slotted in Phil Foden’s assist to give Manchester City a slim one nil victory.

Elsewhere, Liverpool travelled to Benfica to defeat the Portuguese club 3-1 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at Estadio da Luz, The Trumpet gathered.

Ibrahima Konate, Sadio Mane, and Luis Diaz got on the score sheet for Liverpool while Darwin Nunez scored a 49th-minute goal for Benfica.

For the second-leg encounter on Wednesday, April 13, Manchester City will travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium while Liverpool will welcome Benfica to Anfield for the Champions League quarterfinal crackers.
