Liverpool Football Club have agreed with Portuguese topflight club, Benfica, to sign Darwin Nunez after lots of speculation about the player making a switch to England.
With Sadio Mane reportedly on his way to Bayern Munich and Mohamed Salah gimmicks to sign a new deal with the Reds, Jurgen Klopp’s side turned to Nunez whose deal is worth €100m.
Consequent to the agreement, Nunez’s deal whose Liverpool’s first payment would be an initial €75m followed by €25m add-ons, surpasses Liverpool’s £75m transfer record paid in 2018 for Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
Benfica in a statement on Monday announced that an agreement has been reached between both parties. The Trumpet Gathered
“In the early morning hours of this Monday (0:44 am), Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all
rights to the player Darwin Nuñez, for the amount of 75 million euros,” the club statement read.
“To the CMVM, Benfica’s SAD also informed that ‘the agreement provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, so the global amount of the sale could reach the amount of 100 million euros’.

“‘It is further informed that the aforementioned agreement is dependent on the signing of the player’s sports employment contract with Liverpool FC’, it is further explained in the official document,” Benfica stated.
According to reports, the Uruguayan is expected to complete a medical after which he will sign contract terms with Liverpool.
The 22-year-old scored 34 goals this season for Benfica including a goal against Liverpool in both legs of the Champions League quarter-final.
Although Liverpool have placed themselves in a vantage position in Nunez’s deal, it was reported that Manchester United were also interested to contend with Liverpool for the deal.
