Leicester reject Chelsea’s €70m bid as Fofana relegates to U23

Amid interest from Chelsea for Wesley Fofana, Leicester City boss Brenda Rogers relegated the player to the club’s U23 team for failing to turn up for training last week.

Rogers, in the Carabao Cup where Leicester City narrowly saw off League two side Stockport County, dropped Fofana from the squad and would probably repeat the same when they meet Chelsea on Saturday.

Chelsea have tendered several bids for the French central defender with Leicester practically rejecting all.

Rogers added that the west London club recently tendered another which was also rejected by the Foxes.

“We’ve received one fresh bid for Fofana and it has been turned down,” Rodgers said after the win against Stockport County.

“He is training with the Under-23s after failing to turn up to a training session last week,” the Foxes boss added.

Fofana joined Leicester City from French Ligue 1 side, Saint Etienne in 2019 for €35m but Chelsea desirous to complement their defensive lineup before the summer window ends on September 1 for Premier League,
tender bids to the tune of £70m that was practically rejected for the third time.

Over the summer, the Blues lost two of their formidable defenders on a free transfer to Spanish giants and despite adding Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, they still need more defensive reinforcements to strengthen
the squad for Thomas Tuchel.

A snippet from King Power Stadium divulged that the Foxes are eager to make the French U21 defender the record sale and are proposing a fee that surpasses Harry Maguire’s record sale to Manchester United.

Moreover, as the event dilly-dallies, Chelsea have the propensity to step up their offer after Koulibaly was suspended in 3-0 defeat to Leads United at Elland Road and would not be available in Saturday’s encounter
against Leicester City.
