Kaduna State Bans Use of Public School Premises for Social Events.

The Kaduna State government has said it’s now illegal for members of the public to use the premises of any of the public schools for social gathering and events across the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Kaduna State, Dr. Yusuf Saleh stated this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He noted that a circular has been circulated to all the principals and Head Teachers of secondary and primary schools respectively.

“For a very long time most of our public school premises have been used for all kind of activities, and at the end of the day, these school facilities are been vandalized

“We receive reports, complaints and demands from citizens to construct, renovate or fix one facility or the other in public schools every now and then; and these involve lots of money.

“It is therefore critical to take proactive steps to protect schools infrastructure, and this is one of such steps”

He further disclosed that efforts are ongoing address security challenges which have become a major menace the world over.

According to him, plans are already underway to construct perimeter fence in some of the schools that lack such; thereby making them porous for intruders.

Also there are efforts to collaborate with all Stakeholders such as Ministry of internal security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State vigilante Services amongst others, to curb security challenges in the state.

In his response, Mr Tijani Aliyu, the Citizen and Co-chairman, Kaduna Basic Education Accountability Mechanism (KADBEAM) commended the efforts of the State government for always responding swiftly to provide and protect public school facilities in the state.

He noted that these developments will surely reduce the level of destruction of public school infrastructure.
