Jonathan opens door to 2023

  • Consultations ongoing, he confirms

F o r m e r P r e s i d e n t G o o d l u c k Jonathan has again spoken on the 2023 presidential race. Acknowledging that he has been receiving calls to throw his hat into the ring, he, however, declared that consultations are ongoing.

The former president made the clarification on Friday morning when reacting to a call by a coalition of youth groups that stormed his Maitama, Abuja residence to urge him to run 2023 presidential race.

Dr. Jonathan, speaking to journalists after a brief meeting with the youth delegation, said: “yes, they are calling me to come and contest for next election, The Trumpet gathered.

“The key role we must play is to pray that Nigeria gets somebody that carries the young people along. Somebody that can also work very hard to see that some of the problems you raised are dealt with by the government. “And I believe collectively, we will work together.”

Charging the supporters after the meeting, Jonathan said the youths should keep getting involved in the political process for a better Nigeria. Earlier, the leader of the group, Jonathan Azunobi, lamented the hardship being faced by Nigerians while stressing that the country needs the former president back to rescue Nigeria.

He said the youth coalition believed that President Jonathan has the template to restore the country ‘s pride and give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.
