Injury blow for Mourinho as Wijnaldum fractures tibia

Injury has hit Jose Mourinho’s squad as Georgina Wijnaldum sustained a fractured tibia that would see him sit out of the game for weeks.
The Dutch central midfielder, who joined Roma on a season-long loan this summer from Paris Saint-Germain, broke his tibia in a training session ahead of the Monday cracker against Cremonese at Stadio Olimpico.
In the report by Giallorossi, Wijnaldum has undertaken a medical examination to determine the existence of the fracture in his tibia.
“Following an injury sustained during training on Sunday afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests which confirmed the presence of a fracture in the tibia of his right leg,” Roma said in a statement.
The 31-year-old made his debut for the Giallorossi against Salernitana in the Serie A opener where he came in as a second-half substitute for Nicolo Zaniolo in the 78-minute.

Roma added that Wijnaldum will undergo more tests to have a concrete understanding of the extent of the injury.
However, the club have not stated the number of weeks the player will be out from action which depends on the degree of fracture but will definitely be aware after he has undergone further scans.
Moreover, the former PSG midfielder may miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar scheduled to kickstart in November with other reports adding that he could be out for three months.
