The leaders and people of Obiangwu Autonomous Community in Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State have applauded the judiciary over the landmark judgement delivered by Owerri High Court restoring the mandate of Chief Gabriel Nwosu as the duly and validly identified, selected and appointed Eze-elect of the community.
In a statement issued last Friday by the Obiangwu Development Union, ODU, signed by the President-General, Sir Maxwell Opara and its Secretary-General Hon. Hycinth Ohaeri as well as chairmen and elders of the eight(8) villages of Obiangwu, the community expressed delight that the judgement has resolved the Ezeship tussle that had lingered for over eight years.
Opara and others who congratulated Chief Gabriel Nwosu on the victory which, they asserted was well deserved, added that the judgement clearly reaffirmed the original choice of the majority of Obiangwu people, in the person of Chief Nwosu, for the vacant royal stool.
The document read, “Obiangwu Community joyfully welcomes the landmark judgement which was thorough and on ‘Point of Law.’ There are no protests, of any kind, in Obiangwu Autonomous Community, as a whole or any part of it, as being mischievously painted in the media by jobless disgruntled dissidents. The people are rather basking in jubilations.
“The judgement was a reaffirmation of our choice of Chief Gabriel Nwosu as the traditional ruler designate and successor of HRH Eze Johnson Mgbemere, Obioha 1 of Obiangwu Autonomous Community,(of blessed memory).”
Concerning some recent publications alleging that Obiangwu people rejected the judgement and would resist recognition of Chief Nwosu as the traditional ruler of the community by the state Governor, the community leaders dismissed the stories as blatant falsehood, baseless and unfounded claims by enemies of Obiangwu Community.
Opara described the authors of the falsehood, Mr Fidelis Okere, Sunday Mgbemere and Chukwuma Anuforo as frustrated and disgruntled elements as well as bad losers who refused to acknowledge the truth and accept defeat with equanimity.
He further noted with dismay that the trio in their characteristic recalcitrance and unceasing penchant for disrespect to constituted legitimate authorities have unlawfully constituted themselves as a court of higher jurisdiction as to qualify to reject the judgement of the Owerri High Court.
He declared, “Mr Fidelis Okere is not a ‘Chief’ in our community, as he claims and parades himself. He is fake and uses the ‘High Chief’ title to swindle the unsuspecting public. Ditto Monday Mgbemere who wants to be a Regent and Chukwuma Anuforo whose so-called office as SA to Coordinator of Ngor Okpala North Development Centre, has nothing to do with Obiangwu Ezeship issue.
“The trio and their faceless cohorts have been fomenting trouble and brewing crisis in Obiangwu over time because they are feeding fat on the long delay in resolving the dispute over our Royal Stool.

“The said publications are totally false, calculated and brazen misrepresentation of the true position of things in Obiangwu since after the judgement was delivered. The publications were deliberately designed and sponsored to misinform and mislead the general public by the self-styled concerned citizens who have no mandate to speak on behalf of Obiangwu Autonomous Community on Ezeship and other official matters.
The town union used the occasion to call on authorities of Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State Government and security agencies to interrogate, and investigate the activities of Okere, Mgbemere, Anuforo as well as their sponsors and hold them responsible for any bloodshed or breakdown of law and order in Obiangwu because of their threat.
In conclusion, the group appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma and the general public to ignore and discountenance the gangsters whose only intent is to distract the Governor from doing the needful and lawful regarding the September 30, 2022 judgement, which is Recognition and Issuance of Staff of Office to Gabriel Nwosu soonest.
On the counterclaim by the dissidents that the signatures of the community leaders who endorsed the judgement was ‘forged’ and ‘inserted,’ the community dismissed their claim as false because none of the signatories has personally disowned his.
The President-General of Obiangwu Development Union, Sir Maxwell Opara said, “When you look at the signatures you see that one person signed all. The chairman of Umuopara Village, Mr Nathaniel Odor personally went to the houses of those that signed the earlier publication and all of them individually signed.
“Only Elder Dom Nwachukwu of Umunehi and Hycinth Ohaeri were signed for by Nath Odor, on their instructions and permission. The Chairman of Umuwaoma Village, Anselm Ndieze and the Elder from Umuwaoma, Elder Fabian Njoku could not be reached in person but were contacted on phone and they declined, hence their columns were unsigned.
“Again President-General was not mentioned nor did he sign in their infantile rebuttal. Note also that all the signatories are from Egbelu Obiangwu bloc except one David Njoku from Umuekwune and who is not the chairman of that village. In fact, they are just fake men on duty.”
