ICPC offer to assist in conduct of elections in Kogi

The Kogi State chapter of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has expressed its readiness to assist in the conduct of elections in the state to curb corruption within the electoral process and ensure free, fair and credible elections.

This was made known by the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Kogi State, Mr James Ulu Okoro during a courtesy visit recently to the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor James Apam.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Okoro assured that in synergy with other relevant agencies and election monitoring bodies, corrupt practices associated with elections in the country will be reduced to the barest minimum in the forthcoming elections in the state, The Trumpet gathered.

Earlier, Professor Apam welcomed the ICPC RACC and explained that INEC had called on the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Internal Security, which includes ICPC and other relevant agencies of government, to monitor financial dealings before, during and after the elections.

The REC expressed gratitude to ICPC for all it had been doing to minimise corruption in the country in general and in Kogi State in particular.

He equally expressed confidence and their readiness to do everything possible to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted transparently and peacefully in the State.
