How Obaseki made Edo security architecture the best in Nigeria – Commissioner of Police

By Isaac Olamikan

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, has poured encomium on the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, for his untiring support to the State Police Command in his quest to make the state safe for the residents.

While addressing a gathering of stakeholders made up of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Edo State Security Network (ESSN) and senior police officers from the Benin Area Command, last weekend, the Police Boss said that the gathering was a continuation of the state security council consultative engagement “to sensitise the stakeholders on the security architecture, the innovation that we have brought to bear. The challenges we have experienced. The reforms and the reengineering that we have put in place and all that’s necessary to be done to ensure that climate of security in Edo State remains topnotch.

“I want to use this forum to commend the Governor of Edo State for initiating this process and for bringing in a new and robust security reengineering model. As I speak, the Governor has emplaced an elaborate CCTV camera system that covers almost every strategic place in the state capital. As I speak, the Governor has reinforced the Police Command with additional special forces components from Abuja in order to enable the professional capacity of the Command to remain consistently high.

“He has equally donated 15 new operational vehicles to the Police Command which are already deployed to the division and I speak in all the 58 Police Divisions in Edo State with are operating with functional mobility. That’s to say, we have functional vehicles. And as I speak, the elements of lubricants, petrol and diesel required to power these vehicles have been emplaced. That’s to say, as I speak Edo State remains top in terms of logistics preparedness to confront criminality and we are grateful to the governor of the state and his security team at Government House who has worked day and night to ensure that the Police capacity is enhanced.”

CP Yaro praised the residents of the state for their steadfastness and also support for this new direction in the state security architecture considering that the money used to achieve all he just listed is taxpayer’s money.

Going further, he stressed, “we (the Police) are willing, ready and prepared to put in extra mileage to ensure that you sleep with your two eyes closed. In furtherance of this, therefore, I can confidently attest that in the last 90 days the road between Benin and Ekpoma has not witnessed any kidnapping. I can equally attest that in the last 20 days we have only one kidnapping attempt on Benin – Lagos Expressway.”
