How Delta police nabbed four armed robbery suspects in Warri, Asaba

Recovers 30 rounds of 7.62 AK-47 ammunition, others

Police in Delta State have arrested four armed robbery suspects in Warri and Asaba, the State capital city.

Two of the suspects, Eddy Aboyowa, a 37 years old male, and Akpani Isaiah, a 35 years old male were arrested by a divisional anti-crime patrol team at Eagle roundabout by Ugunu bridge on Tuesday evening.

The other two suspects, Donatus Ndukan, a 34 years old male and Chinedu Enenmo, a 37 years old male, who are said to be a syndicate that supplies cartridges to kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists, where arrested on Monday morning by the Command’s Decoy Squad following intelligence report.

The State’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed this on Wednesday while giving an account of the arrested suspects in a press statement obtained by The Trumpet newspaper.

Edafe said that 30 rounds of 7.62 AK-47 ammunition and 250 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the suspects during both operations.

According to him, “On 09/05/2023 at about 2000hrs, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y Mahmud led the divisional anti-crime patrol team out on visibility and confidence building patrol, to curtail the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in Warri and its environs.

“During the patrol, the team intercepted a tricycle along Eagle roundabout by Ugunu bridge, conveying three occupants and subjected them to a search, during the search, thirty (30) rounds of 7.62 AK47 live ammunition were recovered from two of the passengers namely; Eddy Aboyowa (m) age 37years, and Akpani Isaiah (m) age 35years, both of Eyiejuku street off Deco road, Warri. Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.

four armed robbery“In an earlier development, the command’s Decoy squad received an intelligence report on a syndicate that supplies cartridges to kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists. The operatives led by the commander Decoy squad, ASP Julius Robinson embarked on a sting operation, at about 0940hrs of 8th may 2023, and arrested one Chinedu Enenmo ‘m’ 37yrs of Akere Ogidi, Ogbaru LGA Anambra state at their hideout in one of the popular hotel in Asaba, where they hibernate and carry out their nefarious activities, and recovered two hundred and fifty (250) rounds of live cartridges from the suspect.

“During the course of investigation, the suspect gave useful information about his accomplice and led the operatives to Fegge area of Onitsha in Anambra State where one Donatus Ndukan ‘m’ 34yrs of Urom community in Awka-North LGA of Anambra State whom he described as his boss in the business was also arrested. Both suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.”

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police of the Command, CP Wale Abass, after assuming duty at the Command charged all officers and men that it is very pertinent for all officers to carry out their duties diligently.

He also stressed that only result oriented officers will retain their offices. The admonition is believed to have inspired the officers of the Command to launch a manhunt on criminals within the State.

Meanwhile, the CP while commending the team for their efforts, also admonished them not to relent as more is expected of them in reducing criminal activities in the oil rich State.

CP Abass assured Deltans and residents in the State of his readiness to fight against crime and criminality. He appealed for citizens’ cooperation especially during stop and search, which he addmitted may inconvenience road users. He, however, pointed out that such security operations are generally for the collective good of the people and the State.

The CP therefore admonished residents of the State to help the police to police them by monitoring their environments and report any suspicious persons or movement within their areas.
