Gunmen set filling station ablaze, kill security guard

Unknown gunmen set Titolu Venture Filling Station in Igoba, Akure North Local Government Area, ablaze and killed a security guard.

In an interview with journalists in Akure, the station manager, Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, disclosed that he was briefed about the fire outbreak in the station around 4 am on Monday.

Ajisafe said he rushed down to the station and found the assassinated security guard tied with ropes, while the premises was set ablaze. He said: “We could not trace anybody to the incident.

I got a call from one of the residents at about 4 am, and on getting here, we saw the station burning. We called the fire service and they came to quench the fire and in the search to discover the cause of the outbreak, we found out that the perpetrators had killed our security guard.”

He said they saw a keg filled with petrol which might have been used to wet the station before setting it ablaze.

The remains of the guard had been deposited in a mortuary. Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Funmi Odunlami, said investigation had commenced unfolding the circumstances that led to the incident.
