Groundbreaking of new USA consulate in Lagos holds

United States Government will on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 09:00 a.m. perform the groundbreaking ceremony for its new consulate general compound at Eko Atlantic City, off Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Located on a 12.2-acre site, the new U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will support diplomatic and commercial relations between the United States and Nigeria. A statement said it will also provide Nigerian and American consulate “employees a safe, secure, sustainable and modern workplace, adding: “ The Department of State has awarded Pernix Federal, LLC of Lombard, Illinois the $319 million design-build contract for the new U.S. Consulate General, The Trumpet gathered.

The new project will directly benefit the Nigerian economy, creating jobs for local subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, architects, artisans, construction workers, and administrative staff.

“At the event, Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard, Consul General Pierangelo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and representatives from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations will deliver remarks.

Guests will include members of the diplomatic corps and a cohort of Nigeria’s key business, political, media and cultural leaders.”
