Tyson Fury has allegedly rescinded his earlier decision that saw him retire from boxing to challenge Oleksandr Usyk for the heavyweight titles after the Ukrainian defended WBO, WBA and IBF belts against Anthony Joshua on Saturday, August 20, 2022.
Fury, fondly called Gypsy King, told his team he is interested in a heavyweight unification bout against the undisputed heavyweight champion.
This will be a welcome development for Usyk, who said after the win against Joshua, he will fight no one except Fury.
According to Daily Mail, the fight scheduled to hold on December 17, will be hosted in Saudi Arabia, a night before the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar.
In a statement, Saudi Arabia sports minister, Prince Mohammad Abdulaziz, said they are eager to host the unification bout that would likely be held in Riyadh.
“We are very interested in the fight for the undisputed heavyweight title,” he confirmed.
“We are looking to do that in the city of Riyadh,” Abdulaziz stated.
Meanwhile, Frank Warren, a boxing promoter, has played down any purported interest of the United Kingdom being the venue for the bout.
Warren said the place that can generate a lot of revenue would be given the nod to host the bout.
“At the end of the day, it’s where the most money can be generated,” he said.
“There would [be huge demand to have it in the UK], but where would you put it on? We wouldn’t be able to put it on until next year,” Warren added.

Moreover, he opined that the Millennium Stadium being picked as an option to host the fight between Fury and Usyk, does not have the capacity to contain a sizable number of people and that alone can not generate enough money in return.
Speaking about Wembley which has the capacity to accommodate a sizeable number of spectators, Warren claimed the stadium can only host the bout next year, April or May.
“It’s no good going to the Millennium Stadium, it doesn’t hold the same amount of people as Wembley does and can’t generate the same money,” he continued.
“If it were to go on in the UK it needs to be Wembley and it can’t go on until the end of April or May next year.
“We want to get it on before then. While everybody is hot to trot and there are no mandatory force on in the meantime,” he added.
However, Warren stressed that the fight between Usyk and Fury is a very unique fight that everyone wants to see happen, especially, when both fighters are undefeated.
