WAFU ZONE B: Flying Eagles set sight on championship’s final
by Oviri Kelvin, Sports Editor, Abuja
Nigeria Flying Eagles will on Tuesday battle for the final ticket of the WAFU Zone B competition with Cote d’Ivoire in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The Nigeria U20 national team, Flying Eagles, who emerged at the top of group B will lock horns with the second-placed group A team, Cote d’Ivoire.
However, coach Ladan Bosso’s prodigies are aware that the two finalists of the WAFU Zone B competition get automatic qualifications to represent the region in the 2023 African U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the U20 AFCON is scheduled from February 18 to March 12, adding that only the two finalists from the WAFU B tournament will qualify for the eight-team finals in Egypt.

The Flying Eagles will file out against the Ivorians at the Stade General Seyni Kountché at 8pm, after the first semi-final between the Benin Republic and Burkina Faso at the same venue.
Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullahi scored the goals that consigned African champions, Ghana, to a 2-0 defeat last Sunday, before the Flying Eagles drew 2-2 with Burkina Faso on Wednesday. The latter’s 2-1 defeat of Ghana earned them a place in the last four.
Despite scorer Ahmed Abdullahi’s injury that has knocked him out of the tournament, Coach Ladan Bosso is confident that his boys will rise to the occasion against the Ivorians and pick a ticket to Egypt.
