Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on President Bola Tinubu-led federal government to release the sum of ₦217billion for the reconstruction of 260 roads under the Ministry of Works.

Ohanaeze commended President Tunubu for releasing funds to reconstruct the collapsed bridge in Enugu State and other projects across the country, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve sustainable and high-integrity roads for their daily use.

The group expressed satisfaction with President Tinubu’s efforts in road rehabilitation and road pavement construction using cement technology, a move initiated by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi and approved by the Presidency.

A statement on Saturday signed by Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu lsiguzoro, noted that Nigerians are keenly following the transparent activities of the Ministry of Works in Engr. Umahi.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is backing Minister Senator David Umahi’s demands for #217 billion to reconstruct 260 road projects and eight bridges across the country.

The body representing the Igbo people of Nigeria, highlighted the dire need for infrastructural development in the Southeast, especially the reconstruction of all major Federal Roads, which have become death traps.

“The Southeast has suffered neglect for a long period in terms of road construction until now. Nigerians and the Ndigbo in particular, are asking President Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to listen to the cries of suffering Nigerians and release funds of #217 billion for the Ministry of Works to provide Nigerians with good roads.

The group stressed that roads are key factors for revolutionising the nation’s commerce, education, security, and power.

The only voice in the South-East zone implored the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the Senate to ensure that the passage of #217 billion is attainable.
