Expose criminals in your midst, Foundation tells Taraba communities

By Suru Charles

Calls from the leadership of the CLEEN Foundation has gone out to communities spread across Taraba state to always strive hard to expose criminals in their communities.

The call, according to The Trumpet, came during a training on early warning and early response organized by the foundation for some selected communities in the state.

The communities which were made up of Puje, Rakinkada, Gunduma and Mutum-Biyu, in Gassol and Wukari local government councils, were urged to as well expose the hideouts of criminals in their midst to security operatives.

The suggestions, if religiously adhered to, the foundation believed would go a long way to curb crime in the aforementioned communities, local government councils and the state at large.

Led by its Programme Manager, Chigozirim Okoro, the Foundation affirmed that shielding criminals in the name of ethnicity and religion would further compound the government’s efforts in the search for lasting peace in the communities.

Stressing the urgent need for the people to work with relevant authorities in their communities to help expose criminals, the communities, as stated by her, need to be cleaned up so that everyone in the communities “can live without fears.”

While urging them to always tread an extra legitimate mile to point out criminals, the police and other security agencies on their part, as suggested by her, must not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that arrests are made.

Urging the communities to desist from providing cover for criminals, by protecting criminals from exposure, as affirmed by her, “you are endangering your own security and the security of your communities”.

Chigozirim, who was of the view that no criminal can thrive in an environment where he or she faces the risks of exposure by the people, beckoned to the communities to always reach out to security agencies with genuine information that would frustrate criminals’ activities.

The participants, who went ahead to list out the type of crimes bedeviling their communities and the flashpoints, collectively resolved to collaborate with the relevant security operatives to flash out hoodlums from their communities.

Apart from the communities, security operatives, and traditional rulers, to mention but just a few, were also trained on how to handle the information made available to them by the communities without exposing the people’s identities.
