By Oviri Kelvin, Abuja

Harry Maguire remains unfazed by the attention on his performance but is confident about his consistent role with Manchester United this season.

The defender faced criticism from Scotland supporters during England’s 3-1 friendly win at Hampden Park, and his struggles in recent seasons have made him a target for critics.

England manager Gareth Southgate expressed his anger at the treatment Maguire has endured, considering it an “absolute joke.”

Despite the scrutiny, Maguire publicly stated that he can handle it, and he’s known to avoid social media and newspapers to block out distractions.

While appreciating Southgate’s support, Maguire’s primary concern is how the scrutiny affects his family and friends, who attend both Man Utd and England games. His mother, Zoe, defended him on Instagram, condemning the “disgraceful and totally unacceptable” reactions.

Maguire emphasized his mental strength and ability to handle pressure, given his role as Manchester United captain for nearly four years. He acknowledged that the added pressure often falls on him, but it motivates his teammates to perform better.

Despite facing hostility and criticism, Maguire found solace in the positive reception from England fans in Hampden, appreciating their continued support throughout his international career.
