Eight feared dead, five injure in Ondo Accident

No fewer than eight people had reportedly lost their lives to the cold hand of death while five others were injured in a fatal road accident that happened along the Ondo-Ore Expressway at Bagbe, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State today.

It was learnt that the accident involved a truck and a 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ARC 616 XA.

According to an eyewitness, the accident came up when the bus was attempting to overtake another vehicle, which collided with the truck at the other lane of the road.

It took the intervention of the men of the Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the policemen to clear the road after hours of traffic gridlock in the area caused by the incident.

At the time of filing this report, those who lost their lives had been taken to the mortuary while the injured ones were similarly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Reacting, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and let out that the victims had been taken to the hospital.

She added that the accident happened due to a dangerous overtaking attempt by the bus, saying eight passengers died on the spot and five people injured and they have been taken to the Trauma Center, Ondo for treatment.
