EFCC arrests ex-convict, 32 others for cybercrime

By Paul Michael

An ex-convict, Okhiria Alex Chibueze, has again been arrested alongside 32 others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged cybercrime.

Chibueze and others were arrested Thursday by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Commission.

It was gathered that the suspects were nabbed at the Soka axis of Ibadan, Oyo State, in a sting operation by the EFCC following a credible intelligence report on their alleged cyber-crime activities.

It will be recalled that Chibueze was arrested by the operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC sometime in 2021 for fraudulently obtaining $3,800 USD (Three Thousand, Eight Hundred United States Dollars) through a fake lottery scheme.

He was successfully prosecuted and sentenced to six months of community service by the Court on June 16, 2022. However, barely a month after his conviction, Chibueze has again landed in the net of the anti-graft commission.

Spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest on Friday in a statement.
