Edda Killings: Group raises alarm over plots to transfer suspect’s case file to Abuja

By KENNETH ONYEKWERE, ABAKALIKI

A group, Edda Identity has raised an Alarm over underground plots by Ebonyi State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Cletus Ofoke to move the case file of suspects behind Edda Killings from Abakaliki to Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The convener of the group, Mr Julius Ama Oji, in a statement in Abakaliki on Wednesday, said the move was in a bid to release the killer suspects without trial.

According to the statement,” We the Edda people reject this move and we call on Inspector-General of police, Amnesty International, National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Interior to intervene.

“The police is acting on the orders of the Ebonyi State Government to move the case file of those suspects and killers, from the police and court authorities in the state, in a bid to release the suspects, without trial.

“We, the people of Edda reject this move and we call on the Inspector-General of Police, Amnesty International, the National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Interior to intervene.

“We, the people of Edda frown at the unpopular and unacceptable move by the Ebonyi State Government, to release those suspects from police custody without trial and proper arraignment in a competent court of law”.

The statement further stated that their plot is to release those criminals before the elections, for them to continue their killing spree.

As at the time of filing the report, all efforts made to reach the state commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Cletus Ofoke, to comment on the issue proved abortive.
