Ebonyi: Umahi mobilizes 18 SANs to appeal judgement

...Denies statement to disobey court order

Joshua Omoloye, Abuja

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has raised a legal team comprising of 18 senior advocates to appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja that ordered his removal and that of his deputy, Kelechi Igwe from office for defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi assured the crowd of his supporters in Abakaliki, the state capital Wednesday that remains the state governor while urging them to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.

Denying a statement purportedly claiming which court order to obey, Umahi said “today, we have appealed have done three things. We have done the appeal at Enugu and when I said that we have two judgments; I said that the judgment in Ebonyi State which has equal powers with that of Abuja. I said we will obey the judgment in Ebonyi State, we will appeal the judgment of Abuja High Court, we did not say we will disobey, otherwise we will not appeal”.

“So, we are before the Appeal Court in Enugu and we are before the Appeal Court in Abuja and we have also filed a stay of execution over there. So, we are still the Governor and Deputy Governor of your state”
