Alleged fragrant disregard for campaign rules earlier agreed upon by politicians in Gombe state, has become a source of concern to the state police commissioner, Ishola Babaita.
Earlier before the lifting of the ban on campaigns, the command, as observed by The Trumpet, engaged leaders of all the registered political parties in the state in a round table dialogue on how they should go about with their campaigns without engaging the services of political thugs.
The Police Commissioner was however disappointed that the reverse turned out to be the case, as the ongoing campaigns in the state have been taken over by thugs.
The commissioner who yesterday expressed dismay at the way and manner politicians are executing their campaigns, felt sad that the earlier agreements have been broken with impunity.
Barely a few days after the lifting of the ban on political activities, politicians in the state were alleged to have flagrantly abused the prohibition of certain conduct.

The Trumpet gathered that the conducts under section 92 (1,2,3,4 and 5) of the Electoral Act 2022, carry a punishment of imprisonment for a term or fine as stipulated under subsections 7 and 8 of the Electoral Act- 2022.
The commissioner who expressed his dismay via a press statement through the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mahid Muazu Abubakar, vowed to take drastic action against violators of the law.
Parts of the statement reads “the Command under the watch of CP Ishola Babaita have warned that any person or group of persons who violate the provisions of Electoral Act 2022 by engaging thuggery and use of dangerous weapons like Cutlass, Sticks, daggers or knives during Political campaigns, processions, and rallies in public will be arrested alongside their sponsors and prosecuted accordingly.”
To avoid the wrath of the law, politicians who derive joy in flooding their campaigns with thugs, as made known by him, are urged to as a matter of urgency desist from such acts.
The Trumpet noticed that the activities of thugs in the state have taken the center stage in the political campaigns which were lifted late last month by the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
