Customs generates N179m revenue for November in Katsina

More than N179.2 million has been collected as revenue by the Katsina State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) in November 2022.

Comptroller of customs in the state, Chedi Wada made this known during the monthly newsmen briefing on the activities of the command on Tuesday.

Wada said the amount showed an increase of N58 million or 47 percent increase, over the October revenue collected which stood at N121.8 million.

He said the command was able to check smuggling activities during the period under review by seizing several items with Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth several millions of naira.

Some of the items include 973 kg exhaust fiber catalyst with DPV of N74.9 million, 70 cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (50kg each), with DPV of N5.3 million, and 239 bags (50kg) of foreign rice with DPV of N7 million.

Others are 821 cartons of foreign spaghetti with DPV of N4.9 million, 25 bales of second-hand clothing with DPV of N1.5 million, 12 bags of tiger nuts with DPV of N360,000; and 13 bags of China green tea with DPV of N214, 000.

He also said that 11 vehicles that were smuggled or used for conveyance, were also seized by the command, with a collective DPV of more than N119.2 million.

Some of the vehicles include a used Lexus Jeep with DPV of N7.4 milllion, a used BMW with DPV of N4 million, a Toyota Corolla with DPV of N3.2 million, and a Golf Wagon with DPV of N2 million.

Other vehicles include another Golf Wagon with DPV of N2 million, used J5 bus with DPV of N1.7 million, used Honda Accord with DPV of N2 million, and used Toyota Carina ll with DPV of N405,000.

Wada said four suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures and were granted administrative bail pending the conclusion of the investigations.

He added that successes recorded in the period under review were due to the “resilience and commitment of the officer and men of the command working with an effective synergy that is existing among the sister security agencies” in the state.
