Court remands 7 persons charged for kidnapping, murder by Amotekun

Ondo State Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, has ordered the remand of seven persons charged by Amokekun Corps for alleged kidnapping, murder and armed robbery.

The defendants were said to have kidnapped Niran Adeyemo, Bello Mukaila and Risikatu Sulieman and also killed one Mudashiru while driving on the Owo-Ikare Road by firing gunshots at him while the deceased attempted to resist being kidnapped.

The defendants are Moha¬mmed Umaru, Sulieman Aliu, Abubakar Ibrahim, Abudu Barzor, Muhammed Tukur, Aota Bello, and Cindu Yahu

The defendants were arrested and arraigned on four counts, conspiracy, armed rob¬bery, murder and kidnapping by the state security outfit, Amokekun Corps,

The Police prosecutor told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 4, 2022, between Ago Paanu and Ose River along Owo-Ikare Road. He stated that the defendants also robbed Abdul Murtala of a sum of N4 million and other valuables at gunpoint.

He said the offence committed by the defendants contravened Sections 3(ii)b and 6 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010, Sec¬tions 1(1) and 2 of the Robbery and Firearms Act, Cap R.ll Laws Volume 14 of the Feder¬ation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 308,316,320 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo 2006. The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendants at the Correctional Centre.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge as their counsel, U.F. Salau, prayed for an adjournment to enable him to file a counter affidavit to the application.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, ordered that the defendants should be remanded in Amotekun custody. He further adjourned the case till August 18 on ruling on the remand application.
