Court, acquits Lamurde, Bobboi of corruption charges

Federal High Court in Adamawa has discharged and acquitted the former Adamawa state commissioner of finance, Sanda Lamurde, and the former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdurrahman Bobboi.
The duo who have been in court for graft charges levelled against them by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), were on Thursday discharged by a Yola High Court presided over by Justice Nathan Musa.
In his ruling, the judge, as observed by our correspondent, faulted the commission for being both the complainant and the prosecutor of persons and groups.
Lamurde, who was the former commissioner of finance under the administration of Governor Bala James Nggilari administration was discharged and acquitted for want of evidence.
The Commission was noticed to have preferred 21 count charges against the former Commissioner, among the charges which include; breach of trust and diverting funds to the tune of over N700m.

Striking out the case for lack of evidence against the former Commissioner, Justice Musa said the prosecution has as well failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Like the former Commissioner who was discharged and acquitted, the former PDP chairman, whom the commission accused of diverting the sum of N8.140 million was also been exonerated of all charges.
In the Commission’s three count charges against the former party’s chairman, who is the incumbent political Adviser to the state governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, accused the former chairman of diverting the amount which according to them, was set aside for the transportation of food items to the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the state.
The judge also faulted the process where the anti-graft commission was alleged to have served as the complaint and the prosecutor at the same time.
