The Chairman of Ukanafun local government area, Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Godwin Inyieng, has described as false and misleading reports of the purported atmosphere of restiveness and impending rebellion in the area.
Inyieng was reacting to reports in some National Dailies on the impending crisis that would throw the area into conflicts and restiveness over board membership of some indigenes of the area in Savannah Energy; one of the oil companies operating in their community.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 26th May 2023 and made available to newsmen in Uyo, the chairman described such reports as “malicious, satanic, fictitious and wicked,” and urged the people to ignore same.
He disclosed that, as the Chief Security Officer of the Local Government Area, Ukanafun has been one of the most peaceful among the 31 Local Government Areas in the state, adding that, the people including the youths have been obedient and supportive of every effort geared towards the growth and development of the area.
The statement reads in parts:
“I state here that, there is no breakdown of law and order in the Local Government Area.
“The purveyors of the restiveness agenda are unhappy with the peace, harmony and brotherliness prevailing in the area in the past two years, and therefore, trying to imagine or generate crisis where and when there is none.
“For the umpteenth time, my people are the most peaceful, friendly, law-abiding, patriotic, industrious and educated citizens in this country,” he said

The chairman said the people of the are not happy in taking up arms or other weapons of war against each other or the State as predicted by doomsayers.
Inyieng observed that the suggestion of restiveness or rebellion as portrayed by some elements was a figment of their imagination traced to “the quarters of few evil men, who mix up freely with the majority of the sensible and well-meaning people of the area.”
On the issue of the Board of Trustees (BoT), membership of the Savannah Energy/Accugas impacted communities, “let me restate here that, this has been handled most cordially with all stakeholders flowing on the same page, stressing that, “developmental issues were not meant to promote strife and disharmony.”
The chairman, therefore appealed to the people to continue to maintain the peace that “was procured by Governor Udom Emmanuel in the last five years.
