Clergy urges Christians to shun materialism

The President of the Reformed Church of Christ for Nations (RCCN), Rev. Bulus Yerima has made an emotional plea for members of the church and Christians at large to shun greed, materialism and any form of attachment to the world.

Yerima made the call at the annual Zion convention of the church which took place at Takum local government council of Taraba state.

Identifying the love and quest for materialism as reasons why crimes have been on the increase he said the need for Christians to hold tenaciously to God’s command can no longer be overemphasized.

According to him, crimes such as armed banditry, and kidnapping are on the increase, which is is been aided by necessitated quest for materialism.

“Many problems confronting society today, is the manifestation of the wicked attitude of some individuals who offered themselves as a tool for the devil to be used to cause troubles and calamity to fellow human beings through banditry, armed robbery, kidnapping people for ransom.”

Citing various portions of the Christian Holy book, he said the need for Christians to always be mindful of what they say and not to be desperate in the things of the world because there is time for everything has become necessary.

Yerima who was of the view that “human life generally is built on crisis since the fall of the first man from the garden of Eden”, stressed the need for Christians to always eschew acts capable of jeopardy the peace of the society.

He also encouraged Christians not to be perturbed over the present prevailing situations in the country.

The convention brought worshippers, politicians as well as traditional rulers from far and near.
