Chelsea to honour Lukaku’s move to Inter but…

By Oviri Kelvin

Chelsea have inarguably accepted to allow Romeu Lukaku process next season’s campaign in the Inter Milan’s jersey but only on two conditions.

According to emerging reports from Italian media, the West London club is open to doing business to send Lukaku to the Nerazzurri on a paid loan deal or by including one of the Inter’s top players in a swap deal.

The Blues coach, Thomas Tuchel, in yesterday’s meeting with Todd Boehly consortium to discuss the club’s transfer plans, would not stop a move by the Belgian to return to Italy according to reports by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italian media, however, noted that given the performance of Lukaku, who scored a paltry number of 15 goals in 44 appearances in the entire season, Tuchel’s decision to allow the player to leave for Italy does not look surprising.

The former Manchester United forward whom Chelsea spent a whopping sum of €113m to bring to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan in last year’s summer transfer window, could return to Italy on a loan deal.

According to La Il Corriere dello Sport, Inter would need to pay at least €25m for the striker’s season loan, but given Inter’s finances, it’s hard to imagine the Nerazzurri invest as much to get the player for just one season.

The other path could see the Nerazzurri offer one of their stars to re-sign Lukaku permanently. Lautaro Martinez, Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar are among the options for the Blues, but it remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri would sacrifice one of their stars to welcome Lukaku back.
