Catholic Church Suspends Rev. Fr.

Catholic Diocese of Kastina-Ala in Benue State, North Central Nigeria has suspend Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for his alleged involvement in partisan politics. The suspended priest was said to have bought the form to contest the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) governorship position in the state for the forthcoming elections.
A press statement dated 20th May, 2022 signed by William A. Avenya, Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Gboko and Apostolic Administrator Sade Vacamte Catholic Diocese of KastinaAla, said the priest has been suspended from public ministry after a series of admonition.
The statement added: “The mother church does not allow her clerics to get involve in partisan politics, on their own so also CAN extant law. 285, 3 CIC. “You are all aware that my son, your brother and your Priest has purchased the party forms to contest for the office of Governor of Benue State under the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), which is totally against our vocation.

“Therefore, to respond to the spiritual and postoral needs of the church in the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, I have suspended him from the exercise of Sacred Ministry. “This Canonical suspension, takes effect from the moment, it’s communicated to him lasts until he ceases from contumacy.”
