Buhari sets to flag off first oil drill in northern Nigeria

At last, the dream of drilling crude oil from the northern geopolitical region of Nigeria has finally become a reality as plans for President Muhammadu Buhari to flag off the first oil drill in the zone have been concluded.

The exercise which is scheduled for Tuesday this week, The Trumpet learnt will be held in oil fields located in Bauchi and Gombe states.

flag off first oil drillThe ground-breaking ceremony of the Kolmani Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site, as noticed by our correspondent, will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria.

It would be recalled that oil was discovered in commercial volume in the region about two years ago.

This exploration up north will no doubt be the first as several attempts in the Borno state were frustrated by insecurity.

Officials at NNPC Ltd said the oil field in Bauchi and Gombe axis will be developed by Sterling Global Oil, New Nigeria Development Commission (NNDC) and NNPC Limited.

According to them, “The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 22nd November and will be personally flagged off by President Buhari.

Most of his cabinet members including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva,” according to the officials, will as well be in attendance.
