Buhari appoints COEWA registrar Aluyi, pioneer registrar Federal Polytechnic, Orogun

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of the registrar of the College of Education, Warri, Mrs Christine Ejekavwo Aluyi as the pioneer registrar of the newly established Federal Polytechnic sited in Orogun.

Others also appointed include the pioneer rector of the institution who before his appointment was the Director of International Development, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Dr Duke Okoro, pioneer librarian, Dr Felix Achugbue and pioneer bursar, Ms Amarachi Nkpado.

In a letter dated January 31, 2023, and signed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Aluyi who by virtue of her appointment also doubles as the secretary of the governing council, received on Monday her letter of confirmation.

The Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, situated in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State and influenced by the Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege to his hometown is set to kick-off with the meritorious appointments of these principal officers.

According to facts before the public domain, the pioneer registrar, Mrs Aluyi with a rich profile and sound administrative experience sought to synergize in moulding a solid foundation for the institution, an essential in creating a citadel of learning with high academic value.

Born on November 7, 1967, she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate from the University of Benin Staff School, Benin City, Edo State in 1979 and thereafter proceeded to Emede Grammar School, Emede, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State for her Secondary Education where she acquired the West African Examination Council Certificate in 1984.

In 1990, she obtained her Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education Warri, Delta State, and furthered to the University of Benin, Benin City where she bagged a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages (French) and a Master of Arts Degree (Translation) in 1994 and 2010 respectively.

The pioneer registrar, who is also a member Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), and an Associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), started her work experience at the Delta Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd in 1994 as a Youth Corper and was retained after her service year due to her dedication to duty and achievements.

She served as an Advert Executive at the Warri branch office from 1994 to 2002, as a Proof Reader at the headquarters at Asaba from March-September 2002 and as a Senior Adverts Executive at the Warri Zonal Office from 2002- January 2006. From there her service was transferred to the College of Education Warri on the 23rd of January, 2006 as an Assistant Registrar on Hatiss 9 step 4.

As an Assistant Registrar, she served in the Provost’s Office as a Personal Assistant to the Provost and the School of Education as a School Officer. She also later served as a School Officer in the Schools of Languages and Sciences.

In January 2009, she was promoted to the post of Senior Assistant Registrar and she served as the Administrative Coordinator in Delta State University Affiliation Programme Unit and Nursery & Primary School. She earned another promotion in January 2012 to the position of Principal Assistant Registrar and was deployed to the Registrar’s office. There she functioned in that capacity.

In January 2015, she was promoted to the post of Deputy Registrar. She served in the registrar’s office for five years, before she was deployed to the Establishment Unit, thereafter another deployment to the Provost’s office and finally to the University of Benin Affiliation Programme Unit, functioning as a Deputy Registrar, until her appointment as Registrar.

Nevertheless, Mrs Aluyi has attended many conferences and training programmes to build her capacity and knowledge in public service which earned her several honours and awards including the College of Education Warri dedicated Staff award 2015, College of Education Warri Letter of commendation 2013, Pontifical Mission of Nigeria – Golden mother award 2019, and UNIBEN Alumni Association Warri branch – Merit Award in recognition of significant contribution to the branch in 2019.

She has also served as head of various committees and is the first alumnus of the College of Education Warri to be appointed as a Principal Officer of the College of Education Warri. Also, Mrs Aluyi was handed award of recognition from the College Unions (SSUCOEN and COEASU) for her dedication to duty and prompt response to staff issues as Registrar.

She is a very hardworking, passionate and dedicated person. Her marriage to the late Prof. H. S. A. Aluyi is blessed with three children.
