Liverpool mounts pressure on Manchester City

Liverpool has mounted more pressure on Manchester City after it defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirate Stadium to close in on the league leader to a one-point difference on the Premier League table.
The Reds, which on January 16 were trailing behind City by eight points, after winning Brentford 3-0 at Anfield and the league leader had won Chelsea a day earlier at Etihad, have been able to put up a formidable contest to breathe down the throat of Pep Guardiola’s team.
Despite Manchester City still topping the Reds by a point, they have successfully shown resilience to the seemingly unstoppable Manchester City who probably has been boxed away from its relaxed Premier League echelon to an unexpected pressurised conclave.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had never for once written off his team’s chances of winning the league this season even when it seems Manchester City had no rival for the title, the German has always insisted they will go for every trophy in the season.
He said: “If you are with us, you will enjoy the ride and we will go for everything. We are ready to go as much as we can.”
Liverpool has won their first trophy of the season when they defeated Chelsea on penalties in the finals to lift the Carabao Cup and have proceeded to the last eight of the Champions League whose draws will be made on Friday.
However, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had in the game against Crystal Palace condemned the attitude of City’s players over missed chances that could have preserved the team’s six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
While Guardiola refused to accept the fate of the game, he stressed that his players deserved to score which they couldn’t after creating several chances to hand City a win The Trumpet gathered.

“You have to score goals. We created a lot of chances. On another day, we will score. That’s football. We have to score goals. We didn’t do it,” Guardiola said.
Liverpool, still in the three competitions to keep the hopes of winning a treble this season alive, visits Championship Nottingham Forest for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-finals clash at City Ground.
