Baby dies in Tanzania after being snatched by monkey

A one-month-old baby has died after monkeys invaded a home and snatched the infant from the mother during breastfeeding in Tanzania.

Residents have been left in shock after a troop of monkeys snatched a breastfeeding infant from his mother in Mwamgongo village in Kigoma, northeastern Tanzania.

The village borders Gombe National Park. Kigoma Regional Commander James Manyama said the villagers attempted to rescue the infant by using force against the monkey, the baby got injured on the head and the neck. The baby identified as Luhaiba was then rushed to a nearby hospital but died while receiving treatment, The Trumpet gathered.

It is not clear what species of monkey attacked the mother, Shayima. The police have urged citizens to continue to be vigilant.
