Akwa United coach Ayodeji Ayeni has praised the players of the club for putting up a brilliant show against Rivers United in the Matchday 20 encounter at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo.

Ayeni, who spoke with the media after his debut match over the weekend, described the performance of Akwa United players as satisfactory which according to him possess resilient spirits to share points with the NPFL league leaders.

However, The Trumpet gathered that the Akwa United head coach revealed that he had wanted to get a maximum point from the match but had to settle for a point to prepare the team for a winning way.

He said: “I want to give kudos to my boys because most of them joined the team barely a few days before this game and they have been able to adjust and play the way they did.

“I must say that I’m really impressed with our performance against a team like Rivers United. I have to give it to my players for their excellent fighting spirit which fetched us one point.

“Honestly, we wanted to win but since one point is all we got, we have to accept it and move on with plans on how to get ourselves back to winning ways and I’m sure we will get it right next time,” he added.

Ayeni confident of finishing the season on a remarkable note affirmed that the quality of players the team possesses could help the club actualize the goal.
