Nigerian sensational sprinting hurdler, Tobi Amusan, yesterday, June 18, set a new African record in 100 metres hurdles of 12.41′ to climax in the thirteenth season of the 2022 Diamond League meeting in Paris, France.
The 2018 gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games has been a beam in the spotlight in athletics with consecutive victories at the recently concluded African Athletics Championship and Continental Gold Tour in Finland.
Amusan relatively sprinting at the speed of light, ward off her challengers, with Devynne Charlton from Bahamas who came close with 12.63′, Cindy Sember from Britain with 12.73′, and French Cyréna Samba-Mayela’s 12.76′ at the Charléty Stadium.
Other challengers include fifth-placed Australian Liz Clay with 12.89′, sixth-placed Swiss Ditaji Kambundji’s 12.90′ and French Laeticia Bapté, who finished seventh with 13.05′.

The Nigerian, 25 years of age, won two gold medals in the African Athletics Championship held in Mauritius and maintained the traits to impress the nation by setting up a new standard in Paris making her the fastest woman hurdler in Africa.
Accordingly, the sprint hurdler ran a previous best of 12.57′ this season at the Continental Tour Gold meeting in Finland to displace Jamaica’s Britany Anderson on 12.59′ and Nadine Visser of the Netherlands placed third with 12.72′.
With overwhelming successes, Amusan who is reportedly expected to grace the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) national trials between June 21 and 23 in Benin, Edo state is enthusiastic to set a new standard at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, United States, and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, both in July next month.
The Trumpets reports that with the 12.41′ ran by Amasun, she becomes the third-fastest 100 metres hurdler in the world, edging Jamaican Demisha Roswell and her compatriot Ackera Nugent in fourth and fifth on the world athletics chart.
