Alleged tenant murderer granted bail

A 55-year-old woman, Cecilia Idowu who was arraigned for allegedly killing her tenant, Stephen Haruna, with palm oil and dumping his corpse inside the well has been granted bail by an Akure Magistrates Court.

Idowu was granted N5,000,000 bail with two sureties in like sum by the Chief Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus.

The Trumpet had earlier reported that the woman was brought before the court for giving his tenant palm oil to drink which led to his death and later dumped his corpse in a well.

 

The case was initially adjourned by Magistrate Al-Yunnus till Monday, October 31 for a ruling on the remand application sought by the prosecutor.

In his ruling, Al-Yunus, who refused the application, held that there was no probable cause and enough evidence to remand the woman to the correctional centre.

He ruled that the defendant should remain in custody until her bail is perfected, due to the magnitude of the allegation against the woman.

The police had arraigned the suspect on two counts of conspiracy and murder, to which she pleaded not guilty.

The Trumpet learnt that Cecilia, a landlady to the 26-year-old deceased was arrested in her compound at Oke-Igbala Street in Oge area, Okeagbe, Akoko, the day she allegedly committed the act.

The case is hereby, adjourned to January 31, 2023, for mention.
