Agbi paid unscheduled visits to project sites, tasked contractors on quality job

In a bid to ensure all Delta State’s projects meet the required standards and specifications the Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the Isoko axis of the Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage with a spur to Oleh.

While on inspection tour in Oleh, Agbi informed the contractor that the soils in Oleh and its environs are largely alluvial hence proper sub-grade design, soil test and geotechnical information of the soil are paramount to avoid the road failing in less than a year.

He also urges the contractor that, after the earthwork and soil grading, the contractor must ensure the Projects Monitoring Team visits the site for the sub-grade test before the laying course.

He emphasized that the governor needs quality jobs as an infrastructural roadmaster, noting that the Directorate of Project Monitoring Team will not fail the governor in his effort to ensure quality jobs.

He also urged the contractor that the governor wants quality jobs for the people of Delta State, hence all jobs meet their design life span.

AgbiAt the Ellu/Aradhe Ughelli Asaba sector of the road, he met the supervisor and also emphasized the need for quality jobs, adding that the governor is in a hurry to give Deltans quality projects.

The contractor told Agbi that they are currently doing the shoulder of the Ellu/Aradhe road, and agreed that the Project Monitoring Team will be invited to inspect the compacted shoulder before laying the wearing course.

Engr. Dr Agbi, a Fellow Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a Fellow of Nigeria Institution of Structural Engineers (FNIstructE), at the Ogwashi-Ukwu bridge sector of the road, admonished the contractor (CCECC) on the need to speed up their job without neglecting of the quality jobs.

He told the engineers at the site that he discovered that only one part of the abutment is done, noting that the other one is not in place.

The site engineers said that they did not demobilise and that their equipment are at their site office close by, he said they are waiting to remobilize when the rain stops.

The Special Adviser reiterated that quality jobs must be done across the state, irrespective of who the contractor handling the job is, stressing that the governor is concerned with the quality of roads being constructed across the State.
