Adamawa Assembly to create additional Special Development Areas

By Suru Charles

The motion for the creation of additional Special Development Areas in Adamawa state has begun to receive attention from the members of the state House of Assembly, as members collectively put in place machinery to facilitate the process.

The motion which was yesterday brought before the house by Abubakar Isa was unanimously supported by the entire members of the House.

The House will no doubt be left with the option of embarking on the amendment of the local government establishment law number 17 of 2013.

Presided by the deputy speaker, Pwamwakeno Mackondo, the members lauded the efforts of the initiator of the motion, which they described as a welcome development.

The members also resolved to communicate their resolution to the leadership of the assembly, saying that the leadership is also expected to meet with the state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, about their resolution before creation.

The member representing Song State Constituency, Simon Isa, pleaded with his colleagues to allow communities who need additional Development Areas to forward their requests formally to the assembly.

He also suggested that after the completion of all necessary procedures, a committee should be constituted to visit all the communities that forwarded their request to ascertain if they actually deserve to be considered for the exercise.

At the time of filing this report, some of the lawmakers, as observed by our state correspondent, have begun to lobby for the creation of a Development Area in their constituencies.

Some of them who confided on our correspondent, said their local government councils have long overdue for division, hence their resolve to work round the clocks to actualise their dreams.

Calls admonishing the members not to politicize the exercise have however gone out to the members from the various quarters of the state.
