AAUA Protest: Students’ Union meet Management, pleads for reduction of reparation fee

The Students Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, under the leadership of Ogunsanmi Kolade, has met with the institution’s management to plead for the reduction of the twenty thousand naira (#20,000) reparation fee to five thousand naira (₦5,000).
In the meeting held at the institution senate building on 17th of January, 2021, the union asked the management to consider the current economic downturn bedeviling the country and appealed for reconsideration of conditions listed for resumption which are not friendly.
“Earlier today, being a union that represents genuine interests of the students, the Students’ Union, under the leadership of Comrade Ogunsanmi Kolade, met with the university management and discussed issues exhaustively and agitated for the interests of the students.
“During the meeting, the Students’ Union passionately appealed that the reparation fee be reduced to the sum of ₦5,000 considering the current economic downturn witnessed in the country. We also appealed that the management should reconsider reviewing their position on payment of tuition fee.”
The union however used the opportunity to introduce the initiatives currently being considered by the leadership of the Students’ Union, viz; security summit, entrepreneur programme (one AAUAite, one Skill), among many others to the management.
The union condemned the destruction of the university properties and appealed for more considerable measures, saying the university management opined strongly that punitive measures are necessary going forward.
However, the students’ union concurred to orientate all students against vandalising university facilities and to protect the university’s image at all cost.
Speaking, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that management had listened to the proposals of the students’ union and would revert back on the matter in another meeting rescheduled for tomorrow 18th January, 2022.
Recall that THE TRUMPET had earlier reported that the management in a circular conveying the decisions of the University Senate signed by the university registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Arajulu, had directed students to pay a reparation fee of ₦20,000 each, and also ruled that all students must pay their tuition fee up to the current session as well as fulfilled some conditions before they can be eligible to sit for the first semester (2020/2021 academic session) examinations.
