AAUA: Ondo NANS Condemns Amount For Reparation

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Ondo axis, has condemned the twenty thousand naira announced by the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko as the reparation fee to be paid by each student.

In a statement obtained by THE TRUMPET, Comrade Omotoso Surprise, NANS Chairman, described the management’s decision as harsh and unfriendly, saying the body stands against the directive.

“Solidarity greetings to all our dear students from the apex students’ body in Ondo State; an embodiment of all student’s union/associations in the sunshine state with over 2 million members (students).

“In regards to the recent circular published by Adekunle Ajasin University management in response to the violent protest perpetrated by few students as a counter-reaction to the institution’s “No School Fee, No Exam Policy”, we consider the management’s decision as harsh.

However, the body said the management was not considerate as demonstrated through its imposition of unbearable and unaffordable reparation amount on every student.

“It is obvious that the school management in their recent published directive as a procedural route towards reopening the institution as a means to right the wrongs penetrated by some few students during the protest,” is wrong.

Furthermore, NANS said the subject matter of the protest was the inability of a majority of the students to meet up with their school fees payment and now the management is coming with huge amounts and unbearable conditions to be met before students can access the examination hall.

More so, the body reaffirmed that what was damaged during the protest are not up to five million naira (5,000,000 naira) during the intra-campus tour of the adhoc panel set up by the institution.

According to NANS, “It is expected of the school management to be a leading role model in the dispensation of fair judgement and equity, as the school remains the root and stem of the personalities of the students it groom to the outer world.

“In the past, the school has demonstrated maximum tolerance and civility and as a body, we will seek to enjoy more of the civility of the institution to help ameliorate or better still, be more considerate to their dispensation of fairness to the students”, he added.

The body urged the entire students and the entire university community to remain calm as all hands are on deck to address the pertinent issues.

Recall that THE TRUMPET had earlier reported that the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has announced Sunday 30th of January as the resumption date for the continuation of the first semester of 2020/2021 academic session, after a protest that rocked the institution on the 22nd of November, 2021.

The directive was contained in a circular released by the school management and signed by the Registrar, Olugbenga Arajulu which was also obtained by THE TRUMPET.
