Qatar 2022: Nigeria not favourite in Abuja, says Ghana Coach

Ghana coach, Otto Addo, has refuted the claim that the Nigeria Super Eagles are favourite to win the second-leg Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup clash in Abuja.

Addo avowed that the Black Stars are prepared to perform a shocker to clinch the qualifying ticket ahead of Nigeria.

According to the coach, the Nigerian senior men’s team are under pressure having played a goalless in Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

He confessed that despite the poor performances of the Black Stars in the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the team proved in the first-leg clash to be formidable enough to oust the Super Eagles from the November world football event.

According to Ghana Soccernet, Addo said that the first-leg result does not change a thing as Ghana is prepared to win the March 29th clash at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Addo said: “The result doesn’t change anything. When we go there we want to win.

“Even though our Africa Cup of Nations was not good this year, you saw we matched Nigeria in the first leg,” he added.

However, the former Black Stars played down Nigeria’s contention of edging the Ghana national senior men’s team and asseverated that he does not see them as favourite in the contest where an away goal is of utmost value.

“So I don’t see them as favourites, the pressure will be on them at home and away goals can hurt a lot,” he said.

Meanwhile, The Trumpet gathered that the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria immediately after the match in Kumasi through a chartered aircraft, to kick start adequate preparations for the decisive second leg encounter with Ghana, are looking to feature for the seventh time in the global football event.
