Oshiomole Mulls Plan To Contest Edo North Senatorial Seat in 2023.

By Gabriel Omonhinmin.

As the race towards 2023 general election gathers momentum, It is becoming very clear that the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomole will contest the Edo North Senatorial seat in the forthcoming election.

The efforts to clear the coast for Comrade Oshiomole in the forthcoming elections, became open, when on Sunday, February 20, 2022, an enlarged meeting of APC Ward 3 in Etsako East Local Government Area held in Iviukwe, in Edo North. The meeting rejected a request by supporters of Senator Francis Alimikhena, the current Senator representing Edo North in the upper chamber, for the Senator to secure a third term bid.

At the same meeting, the ward passed a vote of confidence in the Local Government APC party executive committee led by Peter Okponokhe.

Senator Alimikhena’s supporters, who were present at that meeting, said that they were at that meeting to present the Senator’s proposal to seek for the party’s ticket for a record third term in the Nigerian Senate. After briefing the meeting, the Alimikhena’s support group was told in clear terms, that nobody from Edo North Senatorial district, in the past was ever given the opportunity to represent the people of that area more than two terms in the Nigerian Senate, and that they should perish the idea of their candidate getting a third term. The enlarged meeting thereafter asked the group to take the message back to their principal, that the ward would not support his third term bid.

The meeting resolved that the ward would not be pushed into becoming a clog in the wheel of political accommodation of other prospective candidates, who are also rightfully eligible and entitled to also represent the zone in the Nigerian Senate.

Sometimes in January 2022, when Comrade Adams Oshiomole hosted the people of the Senatorial zone in his country home in Iyamo, he was told by the people of the zone to prepare to represent them in the forthcoming Senate. Oshiomole, who was in an unusually joyous mood on that particular day, refused to give a clear answer to his people, whether or not he would accede to their request.

An insider, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that Comrade Oshiomole, will be contesting the Senatorial seat in 2023.
