School Security: Plateau NSCDC Special Female Squad Collaborates with Ministry of Education

In a bid to stem the tide of abduction and insecurity in schools, a Special Female Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Plateau State has offered to collaborate with the Ministry of Education in the state to provide adequate security in public schools.
This followed the launch of the “Safe School Initiative” by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Audi, to tackle upsurge in attacks and kidnappings of students in the country.
According to the Director of Public Relations in NSCDC Headquarters, DCC Olusola Odumosu, the Commander of the Special Female Squad unit in Plateau, DSC Rifkatu Margwa, said that the visit was “necessitated by the need to collaborate with critical stakeholders in the State’s educational sector in the fight against insecurity, kidnapping and abduction of school children.”
Margwa explained that the Commandant General’s vision behind the establishment of the Special Female Squad is to restore the hope and confidence of Nigerian parents, students, the entire academic and non academic communities in Nigeria’s educational systems like the days of old by stemming the tide of kidnapping, killings and abduction of school children for ransom across the Nation.

The Commander further reiterated that the CG has directed them to assure the state Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Elizabeth Wapmuk and the entire government of Plateau state of the Corps’ readiness to assist in the ongoing efforts to sanitize and rid the sector of any infiltration and attack by any group of criminals.
On her part, the Commissioner of Education appreciated the NSCDC Female Squad for their visit and proactiveness in carrying out their given assignments.
Wapmuk also commended the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his visionary leadership of the NSCDC and passion for security and safety of the Nation.
She therefore assured of her support for the Safe School Initiative of the Commandant General by assisting to strengthen the capabilities of the Squad through conscious efforts towards making schools safe and secure for learning.
She called on other women in the country to give maximum support to the NSCDC female Squad to help them carry out their duties effectively.
