Group alleges marginalisation of Taraba Central in ministerial appointments

By Suru Charles

The Central geopolitical zone of Taraba state has raised alarm over alleged marginalization in federal appointments.

They lamented that despite the contribution of the zone to the growth of the country, the past governments at the centre, have not for once deemed it fit to carry the people of the zone along, especially in the area of ministerial appointments.

The people of the zone yesterday came under the auspices of Taraba Central Zone Youths Coalition For Peace, Justice and Social Development (TCZYCPJSD) to call on media practitioners to wade in. They expressed sadness that since the advent of democracy in 1999, no minister for the state has not been nominated from the zone.

Making their positions known in a press briefing in Jalingo, they beckoned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to tread the paths of his predecessors, whom they alleged relegated the zone to the background especially in the areas of Ministerial appointments.

Led by its president, Alhaji Bakare Dorofi, they urged President Tinubu to consider the zone for ministerial appointment when forming his cabinet.

Citing how the zone has mobilised votes for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in all the previous elections, they described the continuous neglect of the zone by the party at the national level as “very unfair.”

The group who spoke to media men, when down memory lane on all the ministers that have emerged from the state since the advent of democracy, said: “None of the nine ministers that have been appointed from the state by the past previous governments at the federal level is from the Central zone of our dear state.”

While five out of the nine ministers so far appointed from the state are from the Southern parts of the state, the other four are from the northern geopolitical zone of the state.

They therefore passionately pleaded with Tinubu to consider the zone when collating the names of persons that will be finally announced as ministers of the federal republic of Nigeria.
