NMDPRA shuts 13 petrol stations in A’Ibom

By Isaac Job

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has sealed 13 petrol stations for selling the product above the approved pump price in Akwa Ibom state.

Speaking with our Correspondent in Uyo on Friday during the monitoring and surveillance exercise, the Team Lead of the Agency Mr Joy Koro noted that the petrol stations were sealed for selling beyond government approved pump price to members of the public.

“We shut down 13 filling stations that were selling far above the government-regulated pump price.”

He disclosed that three petrol stations violated government order, adding that the stations would be sanctioned accordingly.

He said the sealed petrol stations would not operate for a stipulated period in the state.

Koro warned marketers to desist from selling the products above the government-approved pump price and revert to the approved price in the state.

“The marketers were dispensing the petroleum products at prices higher than government approved pump price of N300 per litre and above.

“If you see any marketer selling above the regulated price, definitely that filling station will be shut down. Presently, there are enough petroleum products for marketers to lift to their stations,” Koro said.

He warned the marketers to revert their pump price to government-regulated prices in the state to avoid being sealed.

“The marketers know the government-approved pump price, if we carry out surveillance and we see them selling at regulated price, we will not seal the petrol station,” he said.

Investigations reveal that all the petrol stations are selling above the approved pump price as they sell to the public between N350 and above.
