2023: PDP candidate targets repositioning health sector, infrastructure in Imo
By Athan Agbakwuru

House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ngor Okpala state constituency, Chief Kingsley Uzoma Odionyemma, has disclosed that he would focus attention on improving health facilities, roads and other infrastructure through legislations and contacts when elected come March 2023.
Odionyemma made the assertion Tuesday while interacting with Ngor Okpala Journalists Association, NOJA, who paid him a courtesy visit at his hometown, Amafor Imerienwe in Ngor Okpala LGA, to ascertain his manifesto for people of the area.
The candidate, who hinted that he is poised to contribute his modest quota towards the development of Ngor Okpala council using the instruments of legislation when elected, bemoaned the absence of commercial banks, motorable roads, potable water, and electricity among others
Odionyemma, an accountant and a professional nurse based in the United States of America, USA, stated that his passion and desire to give back to the community he came from and urged the electorate to vote for him and the PDP in the coming elections.
According to him, serving as member of the state legislature will give him better opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ngor Okpala and Imo State in general.
His words, “I am not contesting to be in the Imo State House of Assembly for the money in it, as the money I get working abroad is better than what I will get as a House of Assembly member here. I want to use the opportunity in the state legislature to give back to my community where I was raised.
“There are quite a few things an individual can do for the people in the larger society with personal resources but with the instruments of public office one can do much greater and better things.”
Odionyemma declared that he will pay special attention to health facilities and delivery services, education, infrastructure as well as promote sports to meaningfully engage youths in productive ventures.
He further promised to use his local and overseas contacts to attract investors to take advantage of the vast land in the state constituency for the establishment of industries in the area.

Recalling that Ngor Okpala was originally designated as the industrial hub of Imo State hence the reason for siting a Cargo Airport in the area, the PDP flagbearer insisted the 2023 elections provide the opportunity to change the old narrative of paucity of infrastructure and non-visible presence in state and national politics.
The candidate, who regretted that Ngor Okpala, a former County Council like Owerri and Mbaise areas, is still locked in one local government area while Owerri and Mbaise now have three LGAs created out of them just as the area has not produced a senator, ambassador, governor, deputy governor, minister etc.
He blamed the poor political outing of the area on what he termed ‘bad politics’ and pledged to use his success at the polls to introduce a new era of people-oriented, purpose-driven politics.
He promised to ensure periodic result-oriented constituency briefings to effectively engage the constituents on issues affecting the development of Ngor Okpala.
He used the occasion to solicit the cooperation and support of journalists from the area for his aspiration to represent his people of Ngor Okpala in Imo State House of Assembly and other candidates running under the platform of the PDP in 2023.
