Andy Murray records earliest Wimbledon exit

Two-time British champion Andy Murray has been sent out of Wimbledon in a four-set thriller by world-ranked 20, John Isner to record his earliest exit from the grass-court event.

Murray, a former world-topmost ranked tennis player in 2016, fell to a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 loss to the ‘big-serve’ American, who defeated French Enzo Couacaud 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 3-6 5-7 in the first round.

Isner, while in the contest against Murray, winner of the event in 2013 and 2016 editions, dominated the first and second sets before the British gained ground to win the third set. The Trumpet Gathered

However, Murray with the support of the home fans could not sustain the tempo of the third set as the Isner, who in the French open lost in the third round to Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles, regained his ground to send him packing.

The 35-year-old British is yet to win a tennis event this season and has suffered several defeats in various contests. Among the several defeats, Murray’s first for 2022 was at Melbourne, Australia where he fell 6-3 5-7 6-3 in the round of 32 to Argentine Facundo Bagnis.

Murray came close to winning his first trophy for the season in the Sydney International tournament but lost to Aslan Karatsev 6-3 6-3 in the final at Ken Rosewall Arena.

Presently ranked 52 in the world, Murray who retired from Queen’s Club Championships round of 32 against Italian Lorenzo Sonego on June 14, lost in the same court where British Emma Raducanu was defeated 6-3 6-3 by Caroline Garcia in the second round.
